Before you decide on undergoing a tummy tuck procedure, there is a need for you to make an informed decision. This means that you understand everything involved before and after a tummy tuck. The procedure is all about removing the extra layers of fat around your abdomen and all this will be done under general anesthesia.
Your doctor will first assess you medically with an examination as well as a detailed medical history. He will also assess the muscles around your abdomen, their texture and color, when you stand, sit or lie down. He is likely to photograph you as well. Make sure that your doctor discusses in detail with you on what you expect out of this surgery. Clarify all that you need to.
In the two weeks prior to the surgery, you will be asked to refrain for taking any sort of medication. Any that you do take will have to be in consultation with the doctor. You may be asked to add certain vitamin tablets to your diet. If you are a smoker, it would be better for you to stop at least a month before the surgery. Your doctor will also give you a list of things in terms of things to do and not to do with your lifestyle and diet.
In understanding all that happens before and after a tummy tuck, the post-operative care part is very important. After the surgery, expect to be swollen as well as in lot of pain. You will be given painkillers for this. You can expect the healing process to be as long a few months. You will not be allowed to do anything strenuous. You will however be encouraged to walk about to facilitate good blood flow. Remember that the scars will take at least a year to complete heal. In the mean time ask for topical creams that can be applied to soothe the scars and work towards eliminating them.
Hi is it ok for a diabetic to have a tt. please say yes as I am a well controlled diabetic and have booked to have a tt in october
Hi Kathy
If your doctor agree to perform your tt, then you must keep your blood sugar within normal limits 2 wks before surgery and long after. So be conscious with food choices. Diabetic wounds are slow to heal. Lean meat, veggies, fluids. And follow post op inst to the teeth . Good luck
